Members
will be pleased that the problem with on line entries has been
resolved. I will still need to look into the under M/W20 age
groups AND for now they will need to pay using the entry form/cheque
method BUT I will get this sorted asap. ****NOTE****
If you use the online method I MUST have your completed paper
entry as well BEFORE THE CUT OFF DATE (IDEALLY posted same day)-
otherwise I will refund what you have paid and YOU WILL NOT BE
ENTERED. |

Members
will be pleased to note that fixtures from January 2012 are now
confirmed. There are a few changes but they are few. MMTG will
very soon operate a preferred ON LINE entry system for all events.
Please follow 'new' entry procedures- it may involve some
duplication- please think of me as it will take me until further
notice to get to grips with the implications of 2018 and all that
entails. Any way please be informed that it is better to take the
'medicine' now than have it dropped on us all in 2018, well
maybe.....? As ever please keep up to date with the website- send
subs. if you have not etc. 2011-2012 FINAL FIXTURES LIST:

The
PROVISIONAL fixture list for 2011-2012 can be found by clicking
below. Please note I cannot confirm fixtures taking place in 2012
until November BUT I do not envisage many (if any changes). Please
be aware we are at present likely to trial ON
LINE entries for the meeting in
November and currently will go ahead with this form of entering
MMTG competitions from Jan. 2012.
Members can still enter by post and Cheque payment. I will put the
entry form on the website on or before the date stated to
facilitate this. As stated in earlier news a slight increase in
fees will be incurred and this must be paid (I am sorry to say)
regardless of the method chosen by which to pay your entry fees.

I
have discussed with Kevin Winson, who with his wife Debbie run the
cafe/bar in the club house of Derby A.C.,- in regard to MMTG
members getting drinks etc. on competition days.
It has been decided that drinks of the type provided by MMTG for
competitors , judges and supporters of competing athletes,- as
over the last few years, will remain FREE of charge on the day.
Beverages, fizzy drinks, snacks and so on not provided by MMTG
,-can also now be purchased from the cafe/bar on competition
days. |

Members
please note that as a favour to Moorways our base,- the HAMMER
DECATHLON on the 10th. of September will now take place on the
3rd. of September,- nothing else has changed. Please submit your
entries at the latest by the cut off date of the 8th. of August.
The 3rd. is the prefered date,- members who want to do this
competition but cannot do this date should contact me asap and I
will do what I can to resolve this issue. |

July 2011 |
Some
of the membership may recall in conversation with me that we will
eventually (in the light of 2018) need to go along the route of ON
LINE ENTRIES. Well it has been decided that we trial on line
entry (as an addition to) for the competition in November this
year and that all entries from January 2012 will be on line.
Members who are not happy with this can get all the entry forms
for 2012, by providing me with an A4 sae in October 2011.
Obviously, I will still accept entries up to the cut-off date
regardless of method of entry and any problems members may have
will be dealt with in a sympathetic manner, as always.
The on line package will involve an increase in entry fees of
about £1.00,(this I am sorry to say) will need to be paid whether
the entry is on line or not. In November, the charge will be an
addition to the entry fee already on the entry form,-from January
2012 the fee will be collected as part of the entry fee. |

Further to the news item of

South-Premier Inn-DE23 8AG-Phone# 0871-527-8296 and he has
arranged the following preferential terms for MMTG members- on the
weekends they are competing at Derby. I have given him the
assurance that Derby South will be the preferred Hotel for members
staying near Moorways.
The Room Rates are: Single Room-B&B- £57.99
Double Room-B&B-£65.98
Members by booking in advance can also still avail themselves (of
the currently) room only price per night of £29.

HIGHLAND
GAMES DECATHLON.
Members will note that
this neuvo to the world event has been proposed and thought
up by me and was due to take place in 2012,- at our new base in
Derby. This event however has only received a few enquiries and so in consultation with
experts of Scottish events within the membership I have decided to
delay its introduction until at least 2015. This will allow a
number of things to happen:
1). We will have settled in to our new base in Derby.
2). Members can in conversation with colleagues who are members or
who may not be members,- curry support for the event,- remembering
that your chairman would like a minimum of 20 competitors each
time the event takes place.
3). Allow members to show greater support by competing at our
annual HIGHLAND GAMES,- should they wish and in so doing foster
greater interest nationwide.
Also,- and this will need to be understood by all is the question
of prize-money. These HIGHLAND GAMES type events take place now
all over the UK, Europe and the US and so on,- some offer
prize-money for some of the events some do not. If we were to
offer prize money for some of the events then more interest may be
generated BUT this would in all likelyhood mean each competitor
paying an extra £10+ to cover prize-money,- awarded to a few.
The original mission of MMTG-to foster athletic throws competition
of all types (that exist in the world) here in the Midlands is and
has been acheived and is ongoing. We are alligned to the WTC and
currently the WTC events do not pay prize-money,- although as
stated earlier some Scottish type gatherings do. Being an
organisation that offers all the throws that exist in the world,-I
have in my position of vice-president of the WTC consulted with
the president of the WTC on the prize-money issue for Highland
Games events organised by MMTG and we are in accord in that we do
not pay prize-money.
Hopefully in the future 'broken Britain' will recover and extra
fees (this is another issue affecting our decision) will not be
considered too much of a burden and prize-money for HIGHLAND GAMES
type events under the MMTG banner may be paid BUT I restate that
for the foreseeable future it IS NOT the policy of MMTG to pay any
form of prize-money. |

April 2011 |
Members
please note that in the MIDLAND Highland Games which takes place
in July,- that the event-56lb. for height-WILL NOT be included
this year. One of the stands needs repair and so the refurbished
stand will not be available until our move to Derby.
The overall cost of entry will be reduced accordingly. |

March 2011 |
I
would like to thank all members who have purchased a lottery ball.
As a result we are now able to purchase a suitable container,- we
have sold 48-50 balls and so we are unable to pay a bonus. Our
partial (and full move next year) move to DERBY will go ahead.
Please:- a). Buy a lottery ball if you said you would.
b). Keep up to date with website and submission of entry forms,- an entry policy exists and I do not
wish to offend anyone!
Finally, I was asked by a few people at the meeting in London last weekend about 'The MMTG HIGHLAND Games Decathlon'. As a
result I will organize in 2012 ( and even numbered years
thereafter) this meeting,- instead of the Midland HIGHLAND Games,-
which obviously now will be in the odd numbered years. |
