HIGHLAND
GAMES DECATHLON.
Members will note that
this neuvo to the world event has been proposed and thought
up by me and was due to take place in 2012,- at our new base in
Derby. This event however
has only received a few enquiries and so in consultation with
experts of Scottish events within the membership I have decided to
delay its introduction until at least 2015. This will allow a
number of things to happen:
1). We will have settled in to our new base in Derby.
2). Members can in conversation with colleagues who are members or
who may not be members,- curry support for the event,- remembering
that your chairman would like a minimum of 20 competitors each
time the event takes place.
3). Allow members to show greater support by competing at our
annual HIGHLAND GAMES,- should they wish and in so doing foster
greater interest nationwide.
Also,- and this will need to be understood by all is the question
of prize-money. These HIGHLAND GAMES type events take place now
all over the UK, Europe and the US and so on,- some offer
prize-money for some of the events some do not. If we were to
offer prize money for some of the events then more interest may be
generated BUT this would in all likelyhood mean each competitor
paying an extra £10+ to cover prize-money,- awarded to a few.
The original mission of MMTG-to foster athletic throws competition
of all types (that exist in the world) here in the Midlands is and
has been acheived and is ongoing. We are alligned to the WTC and
currently the WTC events do not pay prize-money,- although as
stated earlier some Scottish type gatherings do. Being an
organisation that offers all the throws that exist in the world,-I
have in my position of vice-president of the WTC consulted with
the president of the WTC on the prize-money issue for Highland
Games events organised by MMTG and we are in accord in that we do
not pay prize-money.
Hopefully in the future 'broken Britain' will recover and extra
fees (this is another issue affecting our decision) will not be
considered too much of a burden and prize-money for HIGHLAND GAMES
type events under the MMTG banner may be paid BUT I restate that
for the foreseeable future it IS NOT the policy of MMTG to pay any
form of prize-money. |

STAYING
OVERNIGHT AT DERBY PRIOR TO COMPETITIONS.
For members who may wish
to avail themselves of an overnight(s) stay at our new base in
Derby,- prior to current and future competitions at MOORWAYS,-I
would like to bring to the attention of members- the following
hotels.
The first is located 'two streets' away (<0.6 Miles) from the stadium
and my wife and I have always found them to be of good quality and
reasonably priced. (Members may know if you book in advance you
can get really good deals at these hotels). HOTELS: Premier
Inn-Derby South-DE23 8AG
PHONE#0871-527-8296;
Derby East-DE21 6BF PHONE#0870-238-3313;
Derby North West-DE22 4LZ PHONE#0870-990-6606.
I am in the process in trying to negotiate on members behalves,-further discounts and if successful will report facts of
same in due course.

March 2011 |
I
would like to thank all members who have purchased a lottery ball.
As a result we are now able to purchase a suitable container,- we
have sold 48-50 balls and so we are unable to pay a bonus. Our
partial (and full move next year) move to DERBY will go ahead.
Please:- a). Buy a lottery ball if you said you would.
b). Keep up to date with website and submission of
entry forms,- an entry policy exists and I do not
wish to offend anyone!
Finally, I was asked by a few people at the meeting in London
last weekend about 'The MMTG HIGHLAND Games Decathlon'. As a
result I will organize in 2012 ( and even numbered years
thereafter) this meeting,- instead of the Midland HIGHLAND Games,-
which obviously now will be in the odd numbered years. |

SINCERE
APOLOGIES YET AGAIN TO MEMBERS!
Due to overbooking at one of our venues I have had to change the
dates of two of our fixtures. Giving members what they want in the
transition period with our change of base has not been plane
sailing and has generated a lot of work for me,- even more than I
normally do!! So please understand I have avoided 'County Champs-W.End'
and done as much as I can to minimize the impact on members
competition schedule.
Fixtures List 2010-2011 (Unquote) is appended to entry of
07 FEB 2011
On reading this please let members know whom you know may not be
keeping an eye on the website. |

WILL
ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ AND ACT ACCORDINGLY. Members
will be pleased to note that negotiations are well on the way
regarding a full or partial move of base for our competitions.
Full information in due course.
Purchase of freight container for storage of MMTG equipment.
For a 'Full' move in the short term we will require the
storage
container I have mentioned to members in the past. The only thing
is as well as having to put entry fees up by £5 for meetings
after April 2011 to hopefully cover increased stadia hire costs,-
a container such as is required by us looks even further in the
distance, at our new base.
Solution to the problem!?
Members will know that we run a lottery. It has run since 2007 and
was due to wind up in April 2011. It has helped us greatly in the
past but (as is your want) it has not been supported by all
members.
What I would like to ask is for all members (plus members of MMTG
members family circles if they wish) to buy a lottery ball price
£24 (£2 a month) from this April (for draws from May 2011 to
April 2012),- so that I can purchase such a container to store
MMTG equipment. This would be a one off.
The lottery would then probably be wound up in April 2012 and not this
year as planned. Twelve of you would get your money back and any
surplus would go into funds. This I hope will appeal to you all
regardless of what you think of lotteries.
From members own comments you will not only be getting as well as the
quality and variety,- also standard of competition unequaled in the
UK- but a venue where the throwing areas
are as good as they get in the UK. Only I as senior British (UKA)
hammer coach will have to venture forth on ' dog s*** alley'.
Finally, it may interest you to know that Les Middleton (Grahams
Dad), named the training area at N.Wood as 'The S***ery' a few
years ago and that with your support the venue although it has
served us well will soon become MMTG history.
I hope you will all support this initiative. Please e-mail me or
phone me and start sending me your lottery cheques now and I will do
the rest. We need to sell about 75 to 80 balls to buy the
container and pay the prize money. |

I
thought I had (perhaps I ought to take a little more water with
it?) informed members last April under the title 'Local Hubs given
another airing' of the procedures for the same and that this was
on the website. Well it does not seem to be. This is now rectified
here. Apologies! Click

Members
may be pleased to note that your Chairman,
Secretary and Organizer-Clive HOWELL, has been appointed to
the position of Vice-President of the WTC.(World Throwers Club),-
with effect from 10 December 2010. I am pleased to be appointed
but can assure members that the MMTG will still take up a lot of
my time- providing the variety and quality of competitive events
MMTG is renowned for. Also members can be certain that as VP of
the World Regulatory body I will still forward the aims of MMTG,-
as when I set it up in 2005- on into the foreseeable future. |
